Ingredients

  • – Sodium Butyrate – 300 mg embedded in supporting Matrix / Carrier ( Sodium Alginate Polysaccharide Matrix )

Properties

  • Butirect suppositories contain sodium butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) that serves as the primary energy source for colonocytes.

  • Mechanism of action:

  • – Promotes healing of inflamed or damaged mucosa.
  • – Enhances epithelial regeneration and tight-junction integrity.
  • – Reduces local inflammation by inhibiting NF-κB and pro-inflammatory cytokines.
  • – Improves microcirculation and mucosal oxygenation.
  • Provides a protective barrier against bacterial toxins and irritants, supporting local microbiota balance.

  • Free from corticosteroids and antibiotics, offering a safe, physiological approach to mucosal healing.


Indications

Butirect suppositories are indicated for the management of rectal and anal mucosal disorders, including:

  • – Proctitis and proctosigmoiditis (including ulcerative forms)
  • – Anal fissures and fistulas
  • – Hemorrhoidal disease and post-surgical anorectal inflammation
  • – Radiation- or ischemia-induced proctitis
  • – Pouchitis and post-anastomotic inflammation
  • – Post-surgical mucosal regeneration after hemorrhoidectomy or fistulotomy

They may also be used as supportive therapy in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis involving the distal colon or rectum.

Directions

Recommended dose:

    • One suppository once or twice daily, preferably after defecation.

  • Administration:

  • – Wash hands thoroughly before use.
  • – Remove the suppository from its blister pack.
  • – Gently insert the suppository into the rectum while lying on your side.
  • – Remain lying down for a few minutes to ensure optimal absorption.
  • Duration of treatment:

    • Usually 2–4 weeks, or as directed by a physician depending on the severity of symptoms
