Properties
- – Antiemetic: Acts as a 5-HT₃ serotonin receptor antagonist and NK₁ receptor antagonist, reducing nausea and vomiting both centrally and peripherally.
- – Prokinetic: Mildly stimulates gastric emptying and intestinal motility.
- – Antispasmodic: Modulates muscarinic (M1, M2, M3) receptors, reducing gastric hyperactivity.
- – Prebiotic: FOS enhances growth of beneficial gut bacteria (bifidobacteria and lactobacilli).
Indications
Effective for managing nausea and vomiting in children (≥ 6 months):
- – Acute gastroenteritis – infection-related nausea and vomiting.
- – Motion sickness – travel-induced nausea.
- – Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) – effective against anticipatory, acute, and delayed phases of emesis.
